Heyyy, it’s me Beseeingtheworldyo! We took a taxi from Albania to Macedonia to celebrate the most magical wedding of my dear Macedonian friend, Bobi. He married Emma on Saturday, June 14th, in Lake Ohrid, Macedonia, and the entire weekend was filled with festive activities that were absolutely stunning.
Our adventure kicked off with a dash of excitement! We rolled up to our hotel, which was just outside the town of Ohrid with escaping views of the lake, five minutes before the 1 PM boat departure (classic us—arriving just in time 😉!). The lake itself was a breathtaking deep blue and turquoise around the shore, with a majestic fortress situated on top of the old town – a truly stunning first impression.
Before the wedding, we rented bikes from our hotel and made our way to the charming town, soaking in the local atmosphere and trying the local food.
Then came the highlight: the most beautiful wedding! The bride and groom hosted a fantastic rooftop cocktail party, setting a wonderfully festive tone. The ceremony itself was incredibly special, albeit it was very hot in the direct sunlight. The wedding officiant translated the entire ceremony in both Macedonian and English—seamlessly switching between languages like a total pro. So impressive! The celebration was vibrant, featuring traditional Macedonian dancing (a dance similar to the Hora!), a lively band, and a great DJ, ensuring everyone was on their feet.
We wrapped up the weekend with a local meal at one of Bobi’s friends’ restaurants in a nearby mountain town. It was some of the best food we’d had all week long in the Balkans, a perfect culinary end to an unforgettable trip.
Our friend Bobi gifted us a traditional clay dish a couple of years ago but wasn’t totally sure how to use it—just said, “You make beans in it.” We finally got to enjoy it at this meal, and it def lived up to the hype!
I left Macedonia on an absolute high note and feeling the love — though five days later, I’m still feeling the jet lag too!
